Kitchens
Any one got any advice on new kitchen. Looking for good quality at reasonable prices. I've heard Magnets are ok but how do they compare.
Looks as though there is so much choice out there. So what is good vs bad on terms of quality. Can you recommend and good places to buy?

Re: Kitchens
Pretty much what onsideman said.
I am a kitchen fitter and would rather use benchmarx than howdens.
Ive fitted for all the big kitchen company's and they're all pretty much the same. Do not go near ikea kitchens. They are the biggest pile of shit on the market.
Also don't use the manufacturers fitters as they put about 30-40% on top of the normal fit price, especially B&Q.
Good luck

Re: Kitchens
Depends how lazy you are and how much money you've got.

Wren, B&Q, Ikea, Wickes etc are all much of muchness. They make a big profit on fitting, but its nice to just pay your dough and they get on with it.

But you can get a kitchen at half the price if you source items yourself and get a kitchen fitter in. But time consuming and hassle.

If you go all in with the usual suspects you are paying about £2-3k for the lack of hassle.

Im not an expert but believe all the kitchen fittera buy their own private jobs they fit from howdens.

Re: Kitchens
I got mine from Wren. - i was pretty pleased with the price, interest free credit etc.

As long as you have half an idea about how to design (as they do not) they seemed good value for money.

In the end i got it for about the same price Benchmarx were chanrging me for similar kitchen. My builder was really impressed with the carcasses - said they were better than the howdens ones

Re: Kitchens
Never use Wickes, B & Q fitters, that's how they make their money.

Their are some excellent independent kitchen fitters out there who will do a brilliant job and won't rip you off.

Re: Kitchens
What JLAP said

Benchmarx kitchens are the same as Wickes kitchens, but they're ready built and 40% cheaper and better quality than Howdens (18mm cabinets rather than 15mm I think) Get a local (recommended) kitchen fitter who will have, or can open, a Benchmarx account and Bob's your uncle.

get them to design it but do not, however, buy anything but the cabinets from them.

For appliances use any online store like ao.com, for worktops use Stoneman (or some other quartz/granite supplier) and for taps and sinks etc use t'internet

Re: Kitchens
I think plenty of people use their kitchens!

You don't have to be a budding cook to use a cooker, hob, fridge, grill, toaster, kettle, table, work surfaces etc?

Re: Kitchens
Bought our new one in Wickes - their prices for the kitchen itself were fine, but their fitting is a rip-off.

Got a bloke of ratedpeople.com who fitted the whole thing, including all the extras that Wickes would have charged even more for, for less than half what Wickes quoted

Re: Kitchens
I don't but it was a point about the public in general which you can deduce if you study food buying habits.

Sit down and watch endless celebrity chefs and then buy a ready meal.

I thought this was a thread about Chinese people. Where's westham67?

Re: Kitchens
Most people hardly ever use their kitchen and only need a can opener and a microwave.

Anyone considering spending serious money on a kitchen is doing it for show or to keep their wife happy and is clearly an under the thumb pussy.

Re: Kitchens
Also if you don't need to replace the carcasses then go to kitchen door workshop, cheap as chips and plenty of choice.

Re: Kitchens
At last a thread I can claim to have knowledge of.

Howdens are good and if ordered in October you will get a really good deal as its their sale period ( known as P11 ) but the trick is get your quote now and then hold fire until the last week of October when the branch managers are desperate and trust me they get really desperate due to the pressure of their bosses. They will phone you personally and beg you to buy it before the end of October.

As for worktops there is only one place to buy granite or Quartz from and that's me 😀
